Hungerford RFC

Another sunny October day saw Hungerford play their first away game at Minety. Hungerford had a full 15 but Minety only had 12 so to keep the game competitive 12 a side was played with 3 sections of 20 minutes.

From scrappy start with Hungerford losing the scrum they managed to win possession back and Tom (S) made a tackle breaking run to score the first try, converted by James (R). 0-7

Minety took advantage of the sloping pitch to drop in a long ball from kick off forcing Hungerford down to the five meter line. A great pick up by Ryan (C) who shipped it long to a big overlap to Harry (T) who ran the length of the pitch to score the second try. 0-14

A Minety kickoff fumbled by Hungerford led to a well worked team try for Minety. 7-14

Hungerfords kick off took them up the pitch and a great snipe from scrum-half Jonathon (C) created a break through and a pop to Tom (S) for another score. 7-19

Last-minute of the first third saw a try by Alex (C) disappointingly not allowed due to a knock on.

Start of the second 20 Hungerford had the slope advantage but Minety surged forwards and scored a great try from a breakdown 5 meters out.
14-19

From a Hungerford line out there was a mele of mixed possession until Jonathon (C) got the ball and managed to bundle over the line for Hungerfords next score
14-26

Hungerford scored again with a great cut back in by Joe (G) leading him to run through the Minety team from halfway line scoring a try underneath the post, unfortunately not converting his own try.
14-31

Another breakaway try by Harry (T) jinking through the defense and cutting back inside saw Hungerford extend their lead.
14-38

In the final third Hungerford were playing uphill again. From the kick off Hungerford managed a couple of phases of play before a massive run up the middle of the park by prop Joshua (P) taking half of the Minety team with him. Well supported by his teammates the phase ended in a scrum on the 5 meter line.
A pick and go by the number eight Alex (C) saw him power over the line to get his try unfortunately the conversion attempt by Joshua (P) hit the post.
14-43

After a large amount of pressure from Minety they finally broke through and scored a great try under the post. Converted.
21-43

A penalty for Hungerford saw a switch in direction by the scrum-half leading to the forwards charging forward with the ball with Oliver (P) using all his power to drive himself across the try line. The match ended 21-50 which maybe doesn't show the effort the Minety boys put in. However a win for the U14s and they should all be proud of their efforts today.
