Girls are taking centre stage at Hungerford Rugby Club this summer as the club stages free twice-weekly training sessions throughout June and July.
In conjunction with the RFU’s ‘Love Rugby’ initiative, Hungerford is running Sunday morning and Thursday evening sessions from next weekend [June 2] for Year 3 to Year 9 girls. Newcomers and experienced players alike are welcome and will be able to enjoy training and familiarisation sessions run by fully qualified coaches.
The club’s girls’ section has gone from strength to strength in the three years since it was formed and has combined with Thatcham to form the West Berkshire Warriors, with squads training and playing throughout the winter at under-12, under-14 and, from next season, under-16 level.
“We’re really excited to be offering this chance for girls from seven to 14 to come along and try the game out for themselves,” said Hungerford Juniors chair Helen Daunton. “Our girls’ section is thriving and we want to spread the word about the fun and friendship on offer at Hungerford. We have a reputation for being a welcoming club and I’m sure girls who join us for our Girls Love Rugby session will want more.
“All equipment is provided and our qualified coaches will provide a safe and fun setting for a brilliant summer of rugby. We’re telling the girls: ‘Come with trainers, leave with smiles, confidence and new friends’.”
Sessions will run at the club’s Triangle Field from 11:30am-1pm on Sundays and 6.30-8pm on Thursdays. More details from Helen on 07596 785084.
