HRFC are taking off their rugby boots in lieu of walking boots for a sponsored walk of 40 miles from Triangle Field to Bath between 15 May and 17 May 2025 to raise money for four charities who have supported one of our members who was diagnosed with cancer in 2024.

We have opened registration to members of the club, friends and family who are interested in participating in the walk, as well as sponsors and volunteers who want to contribute in other ways.

Walker Registration

A 40-mile sponsored walk will likely be a physically demanding challenge, requiring significant preparation, where you can expect a long day of walking with planned rest stops, potentially varied terrain, and a focus on managing your energy levels throughout the distance while fundraising for our chosen charities. Equally important is an opportunity to show our values at the HRFC, teamwork, friendship and a personal challenge which you may not have thought yourself capable of!

What you’ll need before you register:

  • Be available Thursday 15th May until Saturday 17th May.
  • Be able to walk for 40(ish) miles – and if you can’t, commit to a training plan!

Key aspects to expect:

  • Long duration: Our route is planned across 3 days, with 2 long days and a shorter day on the Saturday.
  • Training needed: Most people will need to train beforehand to build endurance for such a long distance, gradually increasing walking mileage and incorporating hills into their routine (even though we’ve tried to avoid those on our route).
  • Rest stops: The walk will include planned rest stops for food, water, and short breaks to prevent fatigue.
  • Varied terrain: Depending on the route, you might encounter different terrains like flat paths, hills, and potentially uneven surfaces.
  • Weather considerations: Yes, we’ve planned this for May but we want all walkers to be prepared for changing weather conditions and dress accordingly with layers.
  • Carrying supplies: A backpack to carry essentials like water, snacks, sunscreen, and a first-aid kit is recommended (although we will have first aiders supporting us on this route).
  • Footwear importance: Wearing comfortable, supportive walking shoes or hiking boots with good grip is crucial.
  • Fundraising aspect: As a sponsored walk, you'll be actively seeking donations from supporters based on the distance you complete.

Volunteer and Sponsors

We need your help! We’re asking family and friends of HRFC to support our walkers with this challenge.

For volunteers: Join us for a few days of fun, support, and making a difference! We have a variety of jobs available from Thursday morning until Saturday afternoon – all depending on what you’re able to contribute.

What we need help with:

  • Driving to/from stops along the route
  • Preparing walking packs
  • Preparing food and contributing to pit stop stations
  • Welcoming walkers on each of the overnight stops

Tell us if you’re interested in supporting in a particular way, or want to be available to support in a variety of ways. With many different roles and ways to get involved, there is something available for everyone! Support HRFC and our walkers as they walk 40 miles, raising incredible funds for the charities who support young people through their battles with cancer. Don’t come alone… bring a friend, the more the merrier!

For sponsors: At HRFC, we are committed to making a real impact in our community and we are looking for sponsors who share similar values to us to support this event.

With your support, we can pull together and raise some funds for charities who support young adults who have been diagnosed with cancer. This event is an opportunity to connect businesses with a community-driven cause that resonates with local values, and certainly the values we have at HRFC. Together, we can bridge the gap between potential and opportunity for those that need it most.

We are hoping that by offering a range of sponsorship levels to accommodate businesses of all sizes, each providing valuable visibility, community engagement, and promotional opportunities. This event will provide sponsors with a unique platform to connect with the local community, boost brand visibility, and show commitment to the charities who support our local community. Here’s a couple of things of how supporting us in this challenge could help your business (amongst many more, which we’ll run you though if you’re interested):

  • Local Engagement: Direct exposure to our members and online followers.
  • Positive Brand Association: Align your business with HRFC and the charities we are supporting, demonstrating your commitment to the community.
  • Networking Opportunities: Meet new potential clients and connect with other local businesses in the community.
  • Media Coverage: Featured in event-related press releases, local news, and social media campaigns, amplifying your brand's reach.
