For the first time in many years, Hungerford Rugby Club Juniors proudly returned to the Hungerford Carnival — and what an amazing comeback it was! To top it all off, we were absolutely thrilled to be awarded 3rd Prize in the Float Section of the parade — a brilliant recognition of the hard work and creativity that went into our entry.
This year’s float celebrated “Hungerford Rugby Club and the Events We Run”, giving us the chance to showcase everything that makes our club such a vibrant part of the local community. From our hugely popular annual Tag Tournament, to the ever-growing Girls' Rugby Festivals, and the hosting of the Boys’ Berkshire Cup Final for the 2024/25 season, our float was a colourful, moving tribute to our achievements and ambitions.
None of this would have been possible without our incredible volunteers - Naomi, Sophie and Karina - who were the driving force behind our carnival . Their energy, planning, and creative flair brought the whole project to life, and we can’t thank them enough for making it happen.
We also want to give a heartfelt thank you to Bill Bird, owner of BK Grain, and his brilliant team for their generous support. BK Grain not only provided the lorry for our float, but also helped ensure everything was safe and parade-ready. On the day, Matt stepped up as our driver and did a fantastic job - joined in the cab by his son and young grandson, (who managed to stay dry!). And of course, our Design King Tim, also from BK Grain, helped bring the float to life with his ideas and hard work — a huge thank you for going above and beyond.
We were also supported by a fantastic team of parents, coaches and volunteers who helped decorate the float, walked the route with the children, and created such a special day for everyone involved even in spite of a torrential downpour! "Well done. It was a great advertisement for the Club! Loads of energy and passion." said one of our parents Henry Morris. The float was filled with music, flags, colour, and beaming smiles — a true reflection of the fun, inclusive and community-focused spirit of Hungerford Rugby Club.
Thank you as well to the Hungerford Carnival Committee for organising such a fantastic event and for welcoming us back so warmly. It was a joy to be part of the day — and even better to come away with a prize!
We’re already looking ahead to Carnival 2026 — and we’d love even more club members, families and sponsors to get involved.
