FAQs
WHAT EQUIPMENT OR KIT DO I NEED TO BRING?
All kit is provided, so the only things you need to bring are:
- Trainers (grippier soles may be advisable if it’s wet – ground will be too hard for rugby boots)
- Sports kit (no need for specific club kit – in fact we’re encouraging our existing players to help make the environment more inclusive by wearing their own sports clothes, not our club kit)
- Water bottle
- A hat/cap if needed to suit weather conditions
- Hoodie or warm jacket in case it turns chilly
- Sun cream in case it turns hot
- A bag for belongings
- You may like to bring a hair bobble or scrunchie
WHO SHOULD I CONTACT FOR MORE INFORMATION?
Please contact Helen either on phone or WhatsApp on 07596 785084. Or alternatively, email join.hrfc@gmail.com or message us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/HungerfordRugbyFootballClub

Â
HOW MUCH DO THE SESSIONS COST?
The sessions are absolutely no cost. Hungerford RFC in association with West Berks. Warriors are running this program as part of the RFU’s Love Rugby initiative to help bring girls into the sport
Â
WHO WILL BE LEADING THE SESSIONS?
Hungerford RFC will be providing a number of qualified and experienced coaches. All coaches and volunteers at the club are DBS-checked and highly conversant with safeguarding best practice. First aiders will be on hand at every session
Â
WHAT MIGHT A TRAINING SESSION LOOK LIKE FOR A NEWCOMER?
Each session will be structured around the APES principle – Active, Purposeful, Enjoyable and Safe. We like to keep sessions fluid and responsive to the needs of the girls and their inputs. However, we will make sure we are working towards rugby’s principles of play – Go Forward, Support, Continuity, Pressure, Contest Possession. Expect lots of time with the ball-in-hand, passing and catching in team games and a fair amount of running
Â
DO I NEED TO REGISTER?
Yes, you will need to register on the RFU’s Game Management System (GMS). A link to that is here: https://gms.rfu.com/GMS/Home/Start. There is no cost for this and no obligation to take on a formal membership with Hungerford RFC
Â
ARE THERE CHANGING FACILITIES?
Yes, we will be making one of our changing rooms available for use. These have lavatories and showers if required. In line with safeguarding best practice, these facilities are unsupervised and for use of the girls only – no parents/guardians/coaches or other volunteers are allowed inside whilst reserved for the girls
Â
WHEN ARE THE SESSIONS?
Sessions are every Sunday (11:30-13:00) and Thursday (18:30-20:00). Sessions start on Sunday 2nd June and run until Sunday 28th July. There will be no training on Sunday 30th June.
Â
AM I REQUIRED TO STAY FOR THE SESSIONS?
Parents/guardians are encouraged to stay and support. In the case of Yr3-Yr6 girls, a parent/guardian must be present pitchside. We would discourage parents/guardians from dropping off and collecting and insist there is a responsible adult on-site and contactable.
Â
MY DAUGHER IS NERVOUS ABOUT TRYING RUGBY AND IS WORRIED SHE’LL GET HURT, IS THERE ANY ADVICE YOU COULD GIVE?
Rugby is a complicated sport, but we will take time to explain how it all works and encourage some of our more experienced girls to act as buddies. These sessions will be non-contact (ie no tackling) given the ground will be hard. Aside from the odd stumble or trip, there should be very little risk of getting hurt. The emphasis on these sessions is the girls enjoying themselves, growing their confidence, making new friends and feeling proud of their achievements
Â
WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS OF BEHAVIOUR?
Our sole focus is on providing safe, inclusive and fun rugby to girls. As such, we expect good behaviour in line with rugby’s core values of TEAMWORK, RESPECT, ENJOYMENT, DISCIPLINE and SPORTSPERSONSHIP. We will work to eliminate any behaviours which compromise these values
Â
WILL BE CLUBHOUSE AND BAR BE OPEN?
Yes, of course! You’re free to make use of the club as if you were a member. Drinks and snacks for the girls will also be available for purchase and of course access to water to refill bottles is a given
Â
MY OLDER DAUGHTER IS DOING PE GCSE, COULD SHE GET INVOLVED IN HELPING TO COACH?
Absolutely! Please contact Helen to discuss – our coaches are always keen to develop budding new coaches, and if it can help credit towards academic achievements, so much the better
Â
I WOULD QUITE LIKE MY DAUGHTER TO JOIN THE CLUB AND CONTINUE PLAYING. HOW CAN I DO THIS?
Talk to Helen – we can arrange this. No payment for membership would be required until the start of the new season from 1st September. We are able to offer support with memberships in the event that you need financial assistance through our Play4All scheme.
